Facility will support NY’s transition to clean energy, protect wildlife habitat

COXSACKIE & ATHENS (Greene County) — Today, New York State’s Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment approved the application of Flint Mine Solar LLC to construct a 100MW-AC solar facility in the towns of Coxsackie and Athens. The facility will provide approximately 175,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy, equivalent to the average annual electricity needs of 21,000 homes. At the same time, the developers will take steps to protect habitat for threatened grassland bird species and minimize the project’s visual impacts.

It also will protect important grassland habitats on the property while being minimally visible from nearby roads and public viewpoints.
